The tale of 3 budding fathers.

So, the time has come. My two friends and I have found ourselves 30 years old, laden with responsibility, time management issues, and each with a new bundle of joy in our lives. It is a real turning point for us all. The days have happened lately where I wake up and it hurts. It never hurt before when I woke up. The days have come where I am tired. I was never tired before. The days have come where I am winded. I have never been winded before. Needless to say, our lives are changing, or, slipping away, before our very eyes.

Today is the day I decided to change that. I am an avid believer in exercise, I married a pilates guru, I have felt the difference physical activity has made in my life. But, As I try to balance that with running a company, preparing for a baby, traveling 150 days a year, it gets difficult, and my workouts get pushed to the bottom.

So today I searched for a new motivation, and I found it. Do what I did. look for someone in your same situation, weather that be time crunched, winded, training for a marathon, just find someone who is where you are, and stand together and say, hey, we're going to do this together. Never underestimate the power of a good friend in your pursuit to be come a junkie. Get out there, and prove it. Over the next few weeks, you'll be able to follow us as we prepare ourselves to become junkies. Fitjunkies that is.

Junkie for life.

Find your passion & other ways to take control of your health

Sunday, November 15, 2009 at 4:43 PM

If you're ready to take control of your health, start by washing your hands for 15 to 20 seconds, about as long as it takes to sing "Happy Birthday" twice. Doing this simple act, while avoiding certain behaviors -- smoking, excessive drinking and eating too much -- can dramatically improve your health, said internist William Meller, who specializes in evolutionary medicine in Santa Barbara, Calif.

Prevention goes well beyond the mammograms, prostate screenings or blood tests that we can get at the doctor's office. It's the little steps you take that can keep you healthy. "Ideally, prevention should also emphasize healthy lifestyles, a practice that isn't only health-conscious, but [is] inexpensive," said James Pivarnik, president of the American College of Sports Medicine.

Here are 10 easy ways to get started.

Decline in Fitness Accelerates After Age 45

Web MD has posted an interesting article about how more of us drop off our excerise habits after age 45. Remember, fitness is a habit, and to have a habit you have to form a habit.
Habits are routines of behavior that are repeated regularly, tend to occur subconsciously, without directly thinking consciously about them. Habitual behavior sometimes goes unnoticed in persons exhibiting them, because it is often unnecessary to engage in self-analysis when undertaking in routine tasks. Habituation is an extremely simple form of learning, in which an organism, after a period of exposure to a stimulus, stops responding to that stimulus in varied manners. Habits are sometimes compulsory.
Do what you can, create a habit today, feed the habit, and carry it thru the rest of your life.
